<p>Low levels of ATIII are associated with an increased risk of thrombosis. Acquired deficiencies frequently occur due to consumption in DIC, following major operations, in cases of nephrosis, in liver disease and in contraceptive use with estrogen. ATIII deficiency can cause heparin resistance.</p>
