<p>Patient should avoid avocados, bananas, eggplant, pineapples, plums, tomatoes or walnuts for 48hr period prior to collection.</p> <p>Draw blood in a SST tube . Spin, separate and transfer 1.0mL serum to screw-capped plastic tube; indicate on vial "serum" and freeze.</p> <p>Contact lab for dry ice for shipment.</p>

<p>Diagnose carcinoid syndrome. The classical syndrome includes flushing and vasomotor instability, diarrhea, hepatomegaly, and endocardial lesions. Ectopic production may occur from oat cell carcinomas of lung, islet cell tumors of pancreas, and medullary carcinoma of the thyroid. Carcinoid tumors occur in multiple endocrine neoplasia, types I or II.</p>
